Music Education

I have been working as a music educator since the mid-1990s, both as a teacher and as a music director for youth productions.

I co-founded Stage Door Conservatory in 1996, a summer theater training program for young people, which I ran until 2003. I worked with 5th-12th graders on proper breath technique, voice placement, projection, diction, and musicality. The 6-week program culminated in performances of a junior version Broadway musical, for which I taught the music and played piano for the performances.

Since 2007, I have been on faculty at Imagination Stage, working with students in grades K-12. I started out teaching private voice to teenage students. I also co-teach song/dance and song/acting classes for all grade levels, and music direct for summer camp programs for grades 2-12.

In recent years, I have also started working with adult voice students, especially those who think they can’t sing, or have always been frustrated with singing.

STUDY VOICE WITH ME!

Debbie Grossman is a gifted one-on-one vocal coach!  I have sent many students to her and seen TRANSFORMATIONS.  She is able to focus a young singer’s vocal placement so that the sound becomes supported and projected.  Working from a classical approach, she guides students towards healthy habits while widening their ranges and comfort zones to help them become well rounded singers. ~ Nikki Kaplan, Associate Director of Education, Imagination Stage
